This article will examine a solar roof by Whaling City Solar in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. This 27-panel build was completed just south of the Copicut Reservoir and all the beautiful upland forestry that defines North Dartmouth. We made sure to stop at Just Another Phoenix for a breakfast sandwich on a cheese roll several times on the way to and from this project.

The panels on this customer’s roof are Solaria PowerXT-400Rs, an incredible 400-watt solar panel. The pure black look of a PowerXT™-400R from Solaria comes from its use of “shingling” technology. This shingling technology allows Solaria to put 68-70 individual solar cells in the same space that a regular solar panel fits, about 62 cells. This means more solar cells face the sun; other than the frame, the whole solar panel turns into one giant solar cell! And since the Solaria solar cells are all black, you get that clean, low-profile appeal. It looks excellent shimmering in the Dartmouth summer sun! Read more about Solaria here.
The XR-100 is the ultimate residential mounting rail, designed to support a range of wind and snow conditions while maximizing spans up to 8 feet. A member of IronRidge’s XR family, its superior spanning capability reduces the number of roof attachments needed, minimizing roof penetrations and making it a cost-effective choice for residential solar installations. Made from marine-grade aluminum alloy, the XR-100 is available in a clear or black anodized finish, ensuring durability and a sleek appearance.
The SolarEdge SE10000H inverter revolutionizes traditional solar inverters with its innovative power conversion technology, which uses distributed switching and powerful DSP processing to synthesize a clean sine wave. This design significantly reduces the need for heavy magnetics and cooling elements, resulting in a lighter, more compact inverter that simplifies shipping, storage, and one-person installation.
